Характар

The Norwegian Lundehund is a hunting dog breed native to Norway. The main specialization of these dexterous animals was catching dead ends – small birds that live in the rocks (their fluff and meat were highly valued in the northern regions of the country). Hence the name. Lundehund (Norwegian lundehund) consists of two words: lunde – “dead end” and hund – “dog”.

The Norwegian Lundehund is considered an ancient breed, although experts have not been able to establish its true age. Some descriptions of dogs used for hunting birds date back to the 17th century.

At the end of the 19th century, puffins began to be caught with nets, and the population of the northern islands also decreased. These factors negatively affected the development of the Norwegian Lundehund – the breed was on the verge of extinction.

The only place where purebred individuals were preserved was the small commune of Vörey. Breeders put a lot of effort into restoring the breed, which is recognized as a Norwegian heritage.

Паводзіны

Today, puffin hunting with dogs is officially prohibited in Norway. Therefore, the Lundehund is only kept as a companion. It is perfect for active people who prefer outdoor walks to home gatherings.

Despite their small size, the representatives of the breed are incredibly energetic. They show excellent results in competitions in agility, obidiensu and other dog sports.

Lundehund is an obedient student, although it requires attentiveness and perseverance from the owner. Animals quite often show independence if they are not satisfied with the process training.

The Norwegian Lundehund is loyal to children, especially if he grew up in a family with kids. But this is not a nanny, he is unlikely to patronize the little owner. The dog gets along best with schoolchildren who care for it, play and walk it.

The Lundehund’s attitude towards animals in the house depends entirely on the upbringing of the dog and the behavior of its neighbors. But in general, representatives of the breed are non-conflict and peaceful, you definitely cannot call them bullies.

Norwegian Lundehund Care

The short coat of the Norwegian Lundehund does not require special procedures. A pet is enough comb out with a stiff brush every week.

Representatives of the breed differ from their relatives in the structure of their paws: they have not five, but six fingers. In this case, the two inner ones do not touch the ground. Thanks to this feature, the Lundehund has better developed motor skills. This does not affect nail care, they should undercut as needed.

Умовы ўтрымання

The small size of the dog makes it an ideal resident of a city apartment. However, the pet needs daily walks, which should last at least a couple of hours.
